About Buckstone Labrador Retrievers
Welcome to Buckstone Labrador Retrievers. We are a small hobby kennel located in
Bucks County, Pennsylvania about an hour north of Philadelphia. Our interest in the
breed began in the early 1980’s when I was looking for a family companion who needed
minimal grooming after having spent 15 years with Poodles. When I discovered that the
obedience class at our local YMCA was filled, I entered our new Lab puppy, Trumpet,
in a show handling class thinking that it would be a good beginning while I waited for an
opening in the next scheduled obedience class.
From the first night, I was bitten by the show bug and ever since I’ve been training,
showing, studying and raising Labrador Retrievers. Our dogs are registered with the
American Kennel Club and all puppies are sold on Limited Registration. Our Labradors
are family pets, hunting companions and performance and conformation competitors.
I’ve always been an animal lover. As a young child I collected canaries, parakeets,
salamanders, turtles, gold fish, horses and always a dog or two. I hunted with the
Huntingdon Valley Hunt Club, rode to numerous June Fete Horse Shows after hacking
three miles to get there before we even got into the ring…. sort of the ‘80’s version of
having to walk 5 miles to school without any shoes. Animals have always been in my
life and second only to my human family and friends, most of whom own dogs of their
own.
I usually have one litter a year. No litter is ever bred unless I am planning on keeping a
puppy to continue on with, one that will hopefully be good enough to show in the breed
ring, run in hunting retriever tests and curl up by my feet at night by the fire. My puppies
are raised in the house and see a constant stream of neighbors who visit regularly. They
will have their first shots and be examined by my veterinarian before leaving for their
new homes.
I am a member of the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc., The Labrador Retriever Club of the
Potomac, The Keystone Labrador Retriever Club and The Waterland Retriever Club.
